Overall rating 4/5The Ford Focus’ unique selling point is high-quality motoring at a value-for-money price. No wonder why this is one of Britain's most popular family cars. On top of that, the Focus is also brilliant to drive and cheap to run!

Overall rating 4/5Since its launch in 1998, the Ford Focus has been the C-segment class leader. Many cars have come and gone, but no car has managed to dethrone this Ford. The first Focus made an instant impact when it was launched as it raised the bar for hatchbacks.
It’s proper fun to drive, spacious, comfortable, cheap to buy and run, and stylish as well. With all areas covered, the Focus is a winner and the perfect car for someone who wants a bigger hatchback than the Fiesta. Meanwhile, hot hatch shoppers also had options with the Focus ST and the manic Focus RS. There have been four generations of the Focus. Each generation has its own perks, but it’s hard to go wrong with any of them as a used buy. It is an honest, no-nonsense hatchback and easily one of Ford’s finest.

The key safety features of the new Ford Focus include a combination of advanced driver assistance systems, structural safety elements, and passive safety features. Some highlights include airbags, ABS, traction control, stability control, cruise control, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, etc.
Throughout its production run, the Ford Focus has been available with both naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines. The engine sizes range from as low as the new 1.0-litre to the 2.5-litre 5-cylinder turbocharged engines. The popular engines are the EcoBoost units and the Ti-VCT engines that incorporate new technology to aid performance and efficiency.
The Ford Focus has been equipped with many technology and infotainment features despite being an affordable hatchback. Sync infotainment system, touchscreen units, voice control, smartphone integration, and Ford Pass Connect are few of the highlights.
The fuel consumption of a Ford Focus can vary based on the model, and engine type. For recent models with the 1.0-litre engine, Ford claims a fuel consumption of 30-33 mpg for city and 40-43 mpg for highway. Generally, all generations of the Ford Focus offer good fuel economy, except for the high-performance variants.
When buying a used Ford Focus, there are some important bits to consider. Some of these include a valid service history, engine and gearbox condition, body condition and absence of any corrosion to bodywork or the underside. However, we understand that it can get complicated. Thoroughly checking all these pointers could be challenging, especially if it’s an old Ford Focus. That’s where our AA Vehicle Inspection might come in handy for you! Our experts will inspect a used Focus for you, helping you find out exactly what you are buying. All you have to do is sit back and wait for our detailed report to land in your inbox within 24 hours of the inspection.
Ford Focus cars are reliable vehicles, especially if they are well-maintained with a good service history. However, there have been some reliability issues related to 1.0-litre EcoBoost engines and some automatic transmissions. The petrol variants also tend to be more reliable than the diesel. When considering a used Ford Focus, it's ideal to conduct a detailed inspection, verify the service history, and use a professional inspection service like the AA Vehicle Inspection for total peace of mind with your new purchase.
The Ford Focus has been offered with numerous engine sizes over its production years for different markets and preferences. Some of the popular engine sizes are 1.0-litre, 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre. Ford also offered the Focus with diesel engines and performance turbocharged units for the RS and ST variants.
