Overall rating 4.5/5Debuting in 2012, the Mokka was Vauxhall’s first attempt at a crossover SUV - a budding space back then which happens to be one of the best-selling segments today. A crossover SUV, like the Skoda Yeti, Nissan Juke and Kia Sportage, the Vauxhall Mokka mixes rugged styling with the comfort of a family car.
While the initial response to its 2012 launch was not overly favourable, it has since dramatically improved. The diesel engines are great options from previous generations, delivering an efficient and comfortable drive. Meanwhile, the latest Vauxhall Mokka has evolved as a hybrid and electric SUV with a sharper design. Overall, the Vauxhall Mokka will come across as a satisfying and practical used SUV to you, giving strong competition to the established leaders in the crossover SUV class.

The new Vauxhall Mokka offers a long list of safety features for both the driver and the passengers. Apart from basic safety features such as airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control, hill start assist, and adaptive cruise control, the new Mokka also offers advanced driver assist features. Some examples are forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, driver drowsiness alert, etc.
Since 2012, the Vauxhall Mokka has been available with a range of engine options, including diesel engines. The first-generation Mokka and the Mokka X were offered with 1.6-litre petrol, 1.4-litre petrol, 1.7-litre diesel, and a 1.6-litre diesel engine. Whereas, the latest Vauxhall Mokka is offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, 1.5-litre diesel and also as a fully electric SUV, the Mokka-e.
The Vauxhall Mokka has always been known to offer good features, both technology and infotainment. For the current generation, some feature highlights include a 7-inch/10-inch touchscreen display, Vauxhall Connect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, digital instrument cluster, and a full suite of advanced driver assist features.
The fuel consumption of a Vauxhall Mokka can depend on the model and engine type. For recent models, the fuel economy ranges between 47.1 to 51.4 mpg along with a frugal diesel engine rated for around 67 mpg. Meanwhile, the all-electric Mokka-e is capable of a maximum driving range of 201 miles on one single charge. The older generations of Mokka, such as the Mokka X facelift, are also fuel efficient options with the diesel taking the lead with a claimed figure of 62.8 to 68.9 mpg, combined.
Since the Vauxhall Mokka is a popular model, there are plenty of cars for sale. So, we suggest waiting for the right car, for the right price. Some good signs include a service history, engine and gearbox in ideal condition, good body condition, and absence of any visible corrosion to bodywork and the underside. We also advice going through the MOT history thoroughly, looking for any signs of neglect. However, checking a used Mokka can get tricky, especially if it’s an old model. Since it is popular among new drivers, Mokka models can be subject to a bit of abuse. The AA Vehicle Inspection might come in handy for these cars, Our experts will inspect the car for you, helping you find out exactly what you are buying, or if you should walk away from it. It’s that easy.
Vauxhall Mokka cars are reliable, especially if they are well-maintained with good history. When considering a used Vauxhall Mokka, it's important to conduct a detailed inspection such as the AA Vehicle Inspection for complete peace of mind. Owners of early generations of the Mokka have reported some reliability woes, especially with the electrical system, sensors, and some turbocharger and DPF issues with the Mokka X, specifically the diesel engines. Overall, the Vauxhall Mokka has decent reliability ratings and so, if you avoid the neglected examples, you should be fine.
The Vauxhall Mokka has been on sale with numerous engine sizes throughout its production years since 2012. The main engine options were the 1.6-litre petrol, 1.4-litre turbo petrol, 1.7 and 1.6-litre diesel and the modern 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine.
